For a lot of us, when we create a website for personal or professional use, we don’t take the time to think about the content we’ll have for this website we’re building. A lot of times we get caught up in the, “I’ve got to have a website, now! Right now!” and when we rush we don’t consider the important steps we need to go through before we start building the website.

[dropcap]2.[/dropcap] What’s The Content I’m Offering? Before you start cut and pasting random copy, photos, etc, onto your website, devise a clear plan. How much copy/text do I need in order to convey the right message to my audience? What will my imagery/photos look like – and how many photos will I need (and at what cost?)?


[dropcap]3.[/dropcap] How Will My Website Look? The type and amount of content you decide to have will be a major factor in the overall design of your website. Will a designer be creating a new design or will you be purchasing a theme for your site? All important questions to ask, which can have major implications for where your website is built.


[dropcap]4.[/dropcap] Where Will Your Website Live? With all of the “out of the box” and “built from scratch” solutions there is a lot to consider. We’ll look at some of the more popular options and determine what might be right for you ( vs.; vs., Joomla vs. Drupal).


Creating a website is a lot of fun, but it’s important to do it right the first time. In this digital age it’s good to know that once it’s out there … it’s out there! There is no taking it back. Sure. Things can be unpublished, but how many of hundreds or even thousands of people have seen it before you can say, “Whoops!”
