First off, the most logical question you might have is, “why?” Why would someone want to know how to hide a WordPress blog post? Well, the possibilities can range from unique sponsored posts that you want only the advertiser to see first to specific posts for a unique group of people who only have the URL.

Whatever the reason may be, it’s a need that’s out there. So when my sister-in-law sent me a text message about this need one day, I actually had to go searching for a plug-in that would allow this, easily. For those that don’t know, WordPress started as a blogging platform, so it wants to display each of your posts in broad daylight. But like with most things, the rules are meant to be “bent.” 😉

WordPress has created a plugin called WP Hide Post that’s incredibly simple to install and use. Here are 4 easy steps to install WP Hide Post plugin.

Installing WP Hide Post Plugin

Step 1.

Login to (i.e. your specific admin URL for your website). Navigate to your Plugins on the left hand-side of the navigation menu and select Add New.

Step 2.

Next, you’re going to search for the plugin WP Hide Post. Select Install and then let WordPress do its thing! Once WordPress says, “Successfully installed the plugin WP Hide Post (version number),” then you’re ready to Activate Plugin.

If, for whatever reason, your plugin doesn’t install check to make sure you have the latest version of WordPress installed (WordPress will let you know when it’s time to update).

Step 3.

After you click on Activate Plugin, you will be taken back to the Plugins dashboard that lists all of your plugins. Believe it or not, you’re now done with the install. Some plugins require another setup step, but not with WP Hide Post.

WordPress Post Visibility

Step 4.

Now, you’re ready to post your blog and determine its visibility. Create a new Post. Once open, scroll to the bottom

of the screen and on the far right (under your Tags dialogue box), you’ll notice a new dialogue box called Post Visibility. Select the options of your choosing and post away!
